FINAL
It was a thrill-a-second final couple of minutes, as Edgewood rallied to take the lead on a Clayton Settle 3 with 40.3 seconds left. But Mitchell reclaimed the lead on an Alex Speer 3 at the :23 mark before Mustang sophomore Tanner Thomas canned a jumper in the lane with :11.5 to play. That proved to be the game-winner. Tommy Black added two insurance free throws with 1.5 left, and the 3/4-court heave of Mitchell’s Jared Vance bounced off the back of the rim as time expired. MUSTANGS 52, BLUEJACKETS 49

END OF THIRD QUARTER
Edgewood exploded out of the gate on a 13-2 run behind sophomore big man Brayden Patton and Clayton Settle to go up by three, but a Mitchell basket and a bad time for Edgewood’s first turnover of the quarter — with under 10 seconds left — allowed Mitchell to regain the lead. BLUEJACKETS 34, MUSTANGS 33

HALFTIME
Edgewood started strong, hitting 3 of its first 4 shots from the field and going up 9-4, but Mitchell responded with a 19-3 run spanning the end of the first quarter and start of the second to go up double digits. The Mustangs’ drought reached nearly nine minutes, as they made just 1 of the next 10 after the fast start, before a Jonas Carmichael old-fashioned 3-point play broke the string. Clayton Settle leads Edgewood with 10 points, and Carmichael has five. Alex Speer is torching the Mustangs, be it man or zone, for 15 points. BLUEJACKETS 28, MUSTANGS 20

PREGAME
It’s Senior Night at the Mustang Corral, as Edgewood hosts Mitchell, with seniors Connor Collier, Clayton Settle, Chris Robinson, Alex Driver and Tommy Black set to be the honorees. The Mustangs (8-10) have seen a four-game win streak dissolve into a two-game losing streak and badly need to regather momentum before sectional play begins. After tonight, they have just next week’s finale at Cascade to do so. The Bluejackets (5-9) enter as winners of two straight on the heels of a five-game losing streak. They still have four more regular-season games to play after tonight. Updates to follow here and via Twitter.
