EDITOR’S NOTE: We have noticed that a certain someone from the IP Address 165.138.19.8 is voting over and over and over and over and over again. That person is repeatedly voting for Owen Valley. We appreciate the enthusiasm of whoever is voting from 165.138.19.8, and we don’t want to punish the candidate from Owen Valley. But we also built this poll to register one vote per one person or one device.

In fairness to all of the candidates involved, I will monitor other IPs and confer with IT to see if similar vote patterns are arising for players from other schools. So, please, only vote once. Don’t be that person. Please.

Here are your five candidates for H-T Player of the Week.

Edgewood fans, figure out who you are going to vote for. I couldn’t pick between Eli Housel and Terry Weiss. Good luck.

LB Eli Housel, Edgewood

A dozen tackles is a great day. But a couple dozen? That is hard do. Housel had 23 tackles, including three for loss, in Edgewood’s 36-13 win versus Greencastle. What a day.

LB Ian Fonceca, Linton

The sophomore Fonceca replaced starter Avery Gentry and recorded eight tackles, including two for loss. But keep this in mind: Linton only played its varsity team for two quarters in a blowout win over Wood Memorial. That is quite the impact in a short period of time, especially for a linebacker that is listed as 5-foot-4 and 135 pounds.

DL Landon DeFord, Owen Valley

The 290-pound lineman had three tackles for loss in Owen Valley’s win against Boonville, but he also ran the ball for 28 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score midway through the fourth quarter. That is a big man coming up big in not-so-ordinary ways.

CB-WR Terry Weiss, Edgewood

A 6-foot-4 wide receiver versus a 5-foot-7 cornerback — the 6-foot-4 receiver usually wins, right? Not in Edgewood’s game versus Greencastle. The diminutive Weiss – who head coach Jerry Bland admits is 5-foot-7 if he “stretches him” — swatted away five passes in the Mustangs’ win in the sectional opener, more than a couple against 6-foot-4 wideout Nathan Tesmer. He also had a receiving touchdown where he ran through one tackle and pulled defenders with him on his way into the end zone. Impressive.

WR Jeff Graham, Eastern Greene

The Thunderbirds, as a team, couldn’t beat Tell City, but Graham certainly did his part to keep his team in the game. The sophomore ran for 99 yards and caught four balls for another 123 yards and two touchdowns. He even contributed 37 yards passing.
